Student of Game Design

The very first game and project I did during my time at AIE.
I am most proud of this project due to the sheer effort I put in, and the skills I learned with Maya, Tuning and level development and Design.

I designed this game project based off of my enjoyment of driving in the Adelaide hills and my new fondness for Falcon XW and XY built by Ford Australia.

The game design was to drive a car from the top of a long hill run to the very bottom without falling off which is why the very beginning of the level was so high and not so natural by look or feeling.

During development it was clear this was going to be tough and the idea was slightly altered and the rename commenced from Ride4Life to Terra Torria.

​

My minimal skills made it hard to develop beyond what unity presented and so i focused completely on the level design and feeling of the controller used for driving.

​

The level is difficult but in a fun way. Making mistakes is all enjoyable, and the design for the final product was to get from the top of the hill with no brakes to the bottom safely.

​

The level contains two terrains that is barely noticeable. It was a work around for a problem with expanding the original without retaining the level that was already developed.

No programming went into this project.

Game Narrative and Story

During my first year and first months at AIE, I studied and learned about Maya and Unity.

My role as a independent was to develop a game with a story built in that could make sense.
I made every rock and building in the scene.

​

As the Student Developer -

I developed the user experience, and themed the game idea off of the Adelaide hills, Ford Falcon of the 70's and Bathurst.

​

My own work included:

  • Falcon GTHO

  • Rocks

  • Barn

  • Hay

  • House

  • Shed

​

The lessons i learned were:

  • What skills i require to develop most?

  • What do i need to focus on as a developer?

  • What is essential and not essential to my developer skill set?

​

Software used -

Maya

Unity

​

The projects time frame was 6 - 10 weeks.

It was a SOLO project.
